A little over a month ago, The Sims 3 was announced to the world by EA and Maxis. A wealth of information and screenshots were provided to the community. First looks have been given to many magazines. And The Sims franchise has achieved over 100 million in sales. But still we know little precious information about The Sims 3.
So what do we know? Well first there’s the seamless neighbourhood, the new Create-A-Sim, realistic personalities with ‘traits’ and ‘unlimited’ customisable options; are what EA and Maxis are parading. But what do the screenshots show?

Actiontrip.com has posted an article looking at The Sims 3. While this article does not bring any real new information about The Sims 3. It discusses the changes in the game from The Sims 2. This article also discusses at length who the target for the game is, and why ‘hardcore’ gamers aren’t likely to buy it.

 “In that respect, the game offers additional customization options, so players can now take any material from any object and drag it over a different object to populate it. This way you can create matching sets of furniture and more.”

Rod Humble has given another interview, this time to Joystiq, talking about the success of The Sims franchise and what in store for the future. It however does not bring any new info about The Sims 3.
  “The Sims 3 features a brand new engine that has been in development for nearly three years. The initial feature-set unveiled includes the new seamless, open neighborhood, new Create-A-Sim, new realistic personalities and new unlimited customization. The Sims 3 will launch globally in 2009.”

EA today has been celebrating 100m copies of The Sims games being sold.

EA has posted the news on thesims2.com and has sent out a press release
Rod Humble has sent out a message to european the sims websites saying a thank you to all players.

Regular readers of The Sims 3 Info will know that Nancy Smith president of all things Sims at EA. OC Register has posted a profile of Nancy. It comments on the successes of The Sims franchises and where it fits in the market. It also comments on Nancy’s rise to president and how she got where she is.
“As The Sims celebrates its 100-million mark this week, Smith’s group is preparing to launch more content for Sims players. They’re testing the new online Sims Carnival, where players create their own games. And they’re tight-lipped on Sims 3, expected to launch next year.”

A gamesindustry.biz articles looks into the development of The Sims 3 via prototyping. It goes through the stages, starting with a 2D world and then progressing into the 3D world we have seen via screenshots recently.
“In fact, by the time the 3D engine was created, the studio already had The Sims 3 up and running in its entirety – as a fully playable 2D game. Every piece of the design was implemented in this prototype, from character personalities to object interactions, careers and so on.”
